Nolan at Toyota City in Wetaskiwin showcases the legendary 2018 Toyota Tacoma, TRD Off-Road.
This truck comes in 5 different trims in the Double and the Access cab. Today we look at the Double Cab in the TRD 4×4 Off-Road Edition. So, right off the bat, we’ll cruise to the front over here; you can check out the 16” nice rim Machine Alloy alloys; you got your nice big Goodyear rubber; you got your Bilstein shocks; skid plate underneath; and then, your fender flare to protect from rocks from the dirt when you’re off-roading. That’s all standard on the Off-Road package.
It is equipped with nice projector headlights and a block heater.
The engine in this truck is a V6 3.5L 268ft/lbs of torque and 278HP which is more than the competition trucks by the way, the Chevy ZR2, and the Nissan Frontier.
You can take a look at the new badging. That is actually hiding a radar underneath, which is part of the Toyota Safety Sense. That’s all standard, starting in 2018 on all Tacoma trucks. And, of course, with the little camera up there, and we will touch base on that once we go inside.
The 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD has 7pin, 4pin outlets; tow hitch; and the towing capacity on this vehicle is 6400lbs, which, again, is more than the competition trucks, by the way. Backup camera, standard of course; easy drop gate, this comes right down. You have a box liner which is actually notable for being stronger than squeal, so you never have to worry about this box getting damaged, it’s gonna stay good looking for a long time.
This truck has 4 standard tie-down hooks, and then your adjustable ones here. Another thing that this truck has is the power rear sliding window, which we do have on here, so you can get some nice fresh air or you can grab something in the back if you want.
This Tacoma also has a smart key entry, so actually, you can watch, that unlocks it and then you just have to pull. And it opens having not to take the keys out.
Take a peek in the back. This truck is actually notable for having more room than the competition trucks as well. So, when you’re sitting in here, if you have friends back here, you don’t have to worry about them being miserable because there’s lots of space so everybody can be comfortable.
So, coming back to Toyota Safety Sense, we got our Pre-Collision system with our Pedestrian Detection. Essentially what that would do if somebody runs out in front of you or the car in front of you slows down, it’ll help mitigate an accident by stopping or slowing down with it. You also have your Lane Departure Alert, which, if your car is over the shoulder or into another lane, it will beep at you and notify you so you don’t have to worry about that.
You also have your Auto High Beam, so the vehicle detects that there’s somebody coming towards you, it’ll shut the high beams off and then when it detects that it’s safe, it’ll turn it back on.
Then you also have your Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which essentially will slow down and speed up with the vehicles in front of you, and then you get in a distance preset by you Over here you have your Dual Climate Control, that’s, again, something that the competition trucks don’t have. You have your push-button start, definitely a nice feature.
You got you 4L, 4H, and 2WD; heated seats, 7.1” touchscreen. And up here, on the Off-Road Package, standard on the Off-Road Package and only on the Off-Road Package, you have your Multi-Terrain Select and your Crawl Control, which are really cool features. You get to, pretty much, pick the circumstances in which you would use this. And yes, that’s kind of a wrap on the inside here.
